Cabinet Painting vs. Replacement: Planning Your Budget
Compare the scope of cabinet painting and replacement, and learn what to include when requesting a project estimate.
Start with what you want to change
If you like your kitchen layout and want a different finish, ask for a cabinet painting estimate. If you want to move cabinets, change storage, or replace damaged cabinet boxes, ask for a replacement estimate as well. Photos are a useful starting point, but the existing surfaces and condition need to be evaluated before the scope is confirmed.
What a painting estimate should describe
Ask which doors, drawer fronts, frames, exposed sides, and interior surfaces are included. Discuss cleaning and preparation, repairs, the proposed finish, hardware removal and reinstallation, and protection of the surrounding kitchen. The number and condition of the cabinets affect the amount of work; a photo alone does not establish a final price.
Compare complete scopes
For replacement, ask whether the quote includes removal, disposal, installation, hardware, and any changes to counters, plumbing, electrical work, or surrounding walls. For painting, ask whether hardware changes and repairs are included. Compare the complete written scopes instead of comparing only the headline prices.
Plan for access and daily use
Discuss how long the kitchen will be affected, where doors will be finished, and when surfaces can be used and cleaned. Product instructions and the agreed project schedule determine those details. Tell your contractor about pets, occupants, and any access limitations before work starts.
Request a project-specific estimate
Send JR Paint Solutions a wide photo of the kitchen, close-ups of the current finish and damage, your city, and the changes you want. We can discuss whether cabinet painting fits your project and arrange the next step. Prices are quoted for the actual scope; this guide is not a fixed-price offer.
